Report: Andrew Luck Has A Partially Separated Shoulder
The Colts have been less than forthcoming about the shoulder injury that kept Andrew Luck out of their Week 4 game against the Jaguars, but a report from Indy Sports Central has finally added some specificity to the situation.
From the report:
A source close to the situation says at least three out-of-state experts have looked at the injury and given their input. Luck had an MRI a week ago. The injury is also known as a partial separation of the shoulder.
Doctors are concerned about Luck’s labrum, which is hard to read from the MRI with this type of injury. The biggest concerns about Luck at the moment are pain and arm strength.
The Colts’ next game is Thursday night against the Texans, which doesn’t afford Luck as much time for recovery as the team would like, but he was throwing passes during today’s practice:
Luck’s participation in practice and the fact that the Colts released backup quarterback Josh Johnson bodes well, but it’s never a good sign when a player has an injury that requires the consultation of three different doctors.
This isn’t just a short term problem, either. Even if Luck is feeling ready to go by Thursday, he still has to play behind a patchwork offensive line that’s done little to prevent him from getting hit through three games. If Luck keeps taking hits like he has been, it’s not hard to imagine his health becoming a season-long issue.
