Report: Aaron Dobson Benched After He "Mouthed Off" To Josh McDaniels
The fact that second-year WR Aaron Dobson has suited up just once this season is extra-weird in light of the Patriots being woefully short on receivers. A Boston Globe report today may answer that question; it says Dobson has been benched the last two weeks because he's run afoul of offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Dobson was decent last year as one of the three rookie receivers the Pats drafted or signed to try and give Tom Brady some weapons, tallying 37 catches for 519 yards in 12 games. Yet he's been inactive in Weeks 1, 3, and 4, and the Patriots dressed just three true wideouts Monday night, even though Dobson, who underwent foot surgery in the offseason, hasn't been listed on a single injury report this year (and Bill Belichick lists everyone).
According to a league source, Dobson has been inactive for the last two games because he has had at least one loud disagreement with offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
There are concerns that Dobson, a second-round pick out of Marshall last year, is immature, though he isn't the first NFL player with maturity issues.
In a tweet, young quoted her source as saying Dobson "mouthed off" to McDaniels.
So maybe Dobson is a shithead; I don't know. But I do know the Patriots offense has bigger problems than McDaniels's hurt feelings.
