Red Sox Pitcher Carson Smith Suffers Potentially Major Injury After Throwing His Glove In Frustration

After he left the game, he was apparently mad at himself, and he tossed his glove in frustration. That’s a normal and fine reaction, but Smith injured himself doing so, and according to Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, Smith’s injury might be very quite serious.
Smith suffered a subluxation of the right shoulder in the glove-rage incident, which is a scientific way to say he dislocated his arm out of its socket. He was placed on the 10-day DL, and the Red Sox called up a left-handed reliever from their Triple A team to replace Smith. Boston’s bullpen is one of the AL’s better relief units, and Smith has appeared in 18 games this season, posting a 3.77 ERA.
