Raptors Hit With $25,000 Tampering Fine Because Of Drake
This is why the NBA is the best sports league in the world.
Last week, Drake performed at the annual OVO Fest in his hometown of Toronto. At one point during his set, he mentioned the fact that Oklahoma City Thunder star Kevin Durant was somewhere in the crowd. "My brother Kevin Durant was kind enough to come to the show tonight and watch us," said Drake. "I just want him to see what would happen if he came to play in Toronto." The crowd broke into a "KD! KD! KD!" chant.
This may seem like harmless fun, but it is not! Recall that Drake holds an official position with the Toronto Raptors— he is the team's global ambassador—and since Durant is still under contract with the Thunder, this is considered tampering.
This will hopefully lead to some anonymous NBA official writing up a memo explaining the anti-tampering rules, and then mailing that memo to Drake's house. One of Drake's buddies will read the memo out loud while they're lounging on the sectional sofa, browsing Netflix in the den. Drake will listen intently and let out a disappointed sigh. "Let's just watch Jiro Dreams of Sushi again," he'll eventually say.
