Philly Cops Briefly Thought Corey Clement Was A Barricade-Jumper At The Super Bowl Parade
The problem with being a pro football player is that people might not know what you look like. You wear a helmet while you play. Sure, casual fans know what the star athletes like the quarterback look like—but maybe not anyone else. (For more private individuals, this may be a feature.)
Take Corey Clement, the Eagles’ rookie running back from Glassboro, New Jersey. He caught four passes for 100 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles’ Super Bowl win over the Patriots. He was literally a Super Bowl hero for his hometown team! But in the above video you’ll see the police have no idea who he is. They briefly move to grab him off the parade route, before realizing he is a player on the team.
Incidentally, cops were trying to keep the players on the bus. In this Philly.com roundup of the police scanner during the parade, one cop makes a plea: “Get those players back on the bus. … Make them understand if they do this in Center City, we’re going to lose everything.”
