21 PGA players have lawyered up
source: Getty Images Twenty-one players on the PGA tour announced this week that they have hired lawyers and sent a letter to the PGA Tour Policy Board asking for full disclosure of details of proposals by potential capital partners.
The response from the players came after the PGA announced in a memo that it would be negotiating with Strategic Sports Group, a private equity firm composed of several different investors. The board also said in its memo that it would begin talks with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia in the near future.
“The PGA Players we represent want transparency from the PGA Tour Policy Board before it makes any decisions impacting the permanent structure, economics, or competitive rules of the PGA Tour,” said Susman Godfrey L.L.P, the law firm representing the 21 players in a statement to Sports Illustrated on Dec. 13. “Only with additional information can the PGA Players ensure that the right decisions are made for the right reasons and that no players are left behind. Our clients know their sentiments and goals are shared widely by most PGA Players.”
The 21 golfers being represented are Brent Grant, Tommy Gainey, Scott Piercy, Chris Stroud, James Hahn, Andrew Landrv, D.J. Trahan, Richy Werenski, Grayson Murray, Chez Reavie, Danny Willett, Nate Lashley, Scott Harrington, William McGirt, Lanto Griffin, Brandon Matthews, Callum Tarren, MJ Daffue, Ryan Brehm, Dylan Frittelli and Wesley Bryan.
