Penguins Score Twice In 5 Seconds
credits: NBC Sports Network The Penguins and Flyers came into today’s game in Philadelphia tied at 1 in their opening-round series. Pittsburgh destroyed the Flyers in the opener, 7-0; Philadelphia came back with a 5-1 win in Game 2.
The Flyers got off to a hot to start, but Game 3 is starting to look more and more like a replay of Game 1 as it goes on. The Penguins broke open a close game with goals five seconds apart in the second period.
First, Evgeni Malkin scored during a 4-on-3. Then Sidney Crosby won the face-off and passed it back to Brian Dumoulin, who put it past Brian Elliott to give the Pens a 4-0 lead.
The goals, per the Penguins, tied an NHL playoff record for fastest consecutive goals. The Red Wings’ Norm Ullman scored twice, five seconds part, in a 1965 playoff series against the Chicago Blackhawks. Some solace to the Flyers: Chicago came back to win that series.
