Penguins Re-Sign Marc-Andre Fleury. No, Really.
In a move sure to be universally lauded by fans of the other 29 teams, the Pittsburgh Penguins have extended goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury on a four-year deal with an average annual value of $5.75 million.
The deal will kick in next season and run through 2019, and reportedly includes a limited no-trade clause. It's a big, long contract, but a respectable cap hit—especially if the cap goes up as expected in a few years.
The 29-year-old netminder won a Stanley Cup in 2009, which is a really long time ago when you think about it. But he remains on a team with Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, which inherently makes him a goalie who's going to win a lot of games. And really, when you break things down, can you put a price on winning? (I don't understand this contract at all.)
Fleury has gotten off to a wonderful start this season. And everybody knows that you should pay Marc-Andre Fleury based on how he performs in October.
You may now commence making your MAF jokes.
