Paul George Was Out Of His Mind Last Night
Just in case you were not yet aware, Paul George is the truth. The Pacers' budding superstar proved as much last night, when he went for 43 points in a 106-102 loss to the Blazers, a game that ended with George hitting five three-pointers in the last three minutes of regulation as he mounted a furious, one-man comeback.
George's full highlights are in the video above, but if you just want to see his barrage of sublime three-pointers, skip to the one-minute mark. Not a single one of those shots even comes close to grazing the rim, and each one is more ridiculous than the last. It's hard to watch George's performance and not see shades of T-Mac, especially when he follows his fourth three-pointer with a steal and a just-missed three that would have left the Pacers bench speaking in tongues.
My favorite shot of the night was George's last one. Having seen enough of his heroics, Damian Lillard and Robin Lopez blitz him at the top of the key and knock away what should have been George's final attempt. But Roy Hibbert snatches the loose ball and dishes it back to the now wide-open George, who splashes it. George has always had a knack for mining brilliance out of a wrecked play, and that's part of what makes him so much fun to watch. If Paul George is going to be the NBA's next great superstar, we're in for many more jump-out-of-your-seat shots like this one, and that's a very good thing.
