Patriots Sign Reggie Wayne
Per Adam Schefter, the Patriots and WR Reggie Wayne have agreed to a one-year deal. It’s a poke in the eye of the Colts, no doubt, but New England wouldn’t be doing this if they didn’t think Wayne could be productive.
Wayne, 36, has dropped off over the last couple of years, and is coming off knee and triceps surgery in the offseason, but he is the NFL’s active leader in catches and receiving yards and at this point probably qualifies as a wily veteran. He shouldn’t be a focal part of the Patriots’ offense, not with Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell, Danny Amendola, and Aaron Dobson ahead of him, but given how Tom Brady likes to spread the ball around and how Bill Belichick and Josh McDaniels like to rotate receivers, Wayne will get his work. As for Wayne, he probably can’t ask for more than catching balls from Peyton Manning, Andrew Luck, and now Brady.
Circle Week 6, the Sunday night national game, on your calendar. It’ll mark Wayne’s return to Indianapolis, the Patriots’ and Colts’ return match from Ballghazi, and, just maybe, Tom Brady’s 2015 debut.
