Patriots Lose After Screwing Up Overtime Coin Toss [UPDATE]
Eric Decker hauled in a game-winning touchdown catch after the Jets were gifted the ball in overtime thanks to a colossal screwup by the New England Patriots.
The Patriots won the overtime coin toss, but an apparently-confused Matthew Slater informed the referee the team wished to kick. That let the Jets take the opening drive straight to the end zone, and earn a win without the ball ever touching Tom Brady’s hands.
Update (4:31 p.m.): Apparently Bill Belichick really did want to kick off, and the screwup was in Slater stating they wished to kick rather than saying nothing about kicking or receiving and instead identifying which end zone the Patriots wanted to defend.
