Paris Gentle Mates, OpTic Texas advance in upper bracket at CDL Stage 1 Major

The Paris Gentle Mates and OpTic Texas swept their opponents on Saturday to advance to the upper-bracket finals of the Call of Duty League Stage 1 Major in Dallas.

OpTic Texas downed G2 Minnesota while Paris Gentle Mates defeated the Los Angeles Thieves by matching 3-0 outcomes. G2 Minnesota responded by ousting the Miami Heretics 3-0 in one lower-bracket quarterfinal, while FaZe Vegas eliminated Los Angeles 3-0 in the other quarterfinal.

FaZe Vegas had stayed alive in the tournament by knocking out the Riyadh Falcons 3-2.

All 12 Call of Duty League teams qualified for Major 1, which runs through Sunday. The teams that finished qualifying in the top eight spots began in the upper bracket, and places 9-12 were slotted into the lower bracket.

All matches are best-of-five until the grand final, which is best-of-seven. The winning club will take home $150,000 and 100 CDL points; the runner-up gets $90,000 and 75 CDL points.

On Saturday, the Gentle Mates handled the Thieves, winning 250-233 on Scar Hardpoint, 6-1 on Raid Search and Destroy and 2-1 on Exposure Overload.

The next opponent for Paris is OpTic Texas, which dispatched G2 Minnesota 250-203 on Colossus Hardpoint, 6-4 on Exposure Search and Destroy and 3-2 on Scar Overload.

FaZe Vegas outbattled the Riyadh Falcons 3-2 to emerge from the lower-bracket round 2. Vegas won 250-233 on Blackheart Hardpoint, then the Falcons triumphed 6-5 on Colossus Search and Destroy. Vegas ahead took the lead with a 4-3 decision on Exposure Overload, then Riyadh pulled even with a 250-215 victory on Den Hardpoint. Vegas took the last map, Exposure Search and Destroy, by a 6-2 score for the match.

Next up for FaZe Vegas was the Los Angeles Thieves in the lower-bracket quarterfinals. Vegas won in a sweep, 250-235 on Scar Hardpoint, 6-3 on Colossus Search and Destroy and 4-3 on Exposure Overload.

G2 Minnesota swept Miami, winning on Scar Hardpoint (250-146), Exposure Search and Destroy (6-5) and Scar Overload (2-1).
