Oscar Pistorius Has His Bail Restrictions Eased, Can Leave Country
A South African judge has granted Oscar Pistorius's wish for relaxed bail conditions, ruling that Pistorius may now travel with police approval and can go back to living in the home in which he allegedly murdered his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
The original conditions of Pistorius's bail, which his defense team chafed at, prevented him from traveling and forbid him from returning to his home while it was still an active crime scene. The easing of these restrictions seems to have been done so that Pistorius can participate in track competitions, should he choose to do so. From ABC:
[Pistorius's attorney] said Pistorius has no desire to return to the track now, but "this might and this will change." He said Pistorius should be allowed to travel for international meets under "controlled" circumstances, where he would require advanced permission from police and would have to give details of his travel schedule before he left South Africa.
It's hard to imagine why Pistorius would want to return to the track before his trial begins. Accused murderers aren't exactly known for being fan favorites. Then again, he does just want to "get on with his life," so maybe we'll see him running sooner rather than later.
