Old Dominion Basketball Player Arrested In Uniform, Minutes Before Tip-Off
Kent Bazemore was all set for ODU's quarterfinal against Mercer last night in the Collegeinsider.com tournament. Bazemore came into the game averaging a team-best 15.4 points per game. He was listed as a starter and even warmed up with his teammates. And then he was gone.
From the :
Bazemore had a warrant on file from Virginia Beach for "revocation for a suspended sentence-DUI", according to police. Knowing Bazemore would be at the Constant Center, police arrested him. He was "not uncooperative," according to Sgt. Margie Hobbs. He was taken to the Virginia Beach jail and released.
Coach Blaine Taylor said he was as surprised as anyone to learn that his star guard, an All-Colonial Athletic Association selection, would not play.
"About five minutes before game, literally (I) was told he would be unavailable," Taylor said.
Bazemore is a fifth-year senior who is considered a possible NBA prospect. ODU wound up losing the game by six. The takeaway from all this? The Collegeinsider.com tournament is actually a thing.
