Offensive-foul call seals' Knicks victory over Mavericks

Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-Imagn Images Jalen Brunson scored 28 points in his return to the lineup and Landry Shamet hit a pair of 3-pointers in the final 1:03 as the New York Knicks beat the Dallas Mavericks 113-111 for their first road win of the season on Wednesday.
Dallas guard Brandon Williams was called for an offensive foul after appearing to tie the game with 0.7 seconds left, allowing New York to emerge victorious in a game that featured 13 ties and 16 lead changes.
Karl-Anthony Towns had 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Knicks, who won for the seventh time in their past nine games. Josh Hart added 16 points and 10 rebounds, Mikal Bridges scored 16 points, and Miles McBride contributed 11 points as New York improved to 1-4 on the road.
Reserves Naji Marshall and D'Angelo Russell scored 23 points apiece to lead the Mavericks, who took their fifth loss in six games. Max Christie added 15, Klay Thompson had 13, and Jaden Hardy chipped in 11.
Dallas led 108-106 with 2:06 remaining before New York regained the lead when Shamet drilled a wide-open 3-pointer with 1:03 left.
After Russell made 1 of 2 foul shots to tie the game, Shamet hit another trey to put the Knicks ahead 112-109 with 31.4 seconds to play.
Shamet missed two foul shots with 22 seconds left to give Dallas a chance to tie the game, but Williams' 3-point attempt was unsuccessful. After a quick foul, the Knicks' Mitchell Robinson missed two foul shots.
Dallas' P.J. Washington was fouled after grabbing the rebound and made two free throws to make it a one-point game with 5.9 seconds left. After Brunson made 1 of 2 foul shots, Dallas' bid to force overtime was denied when Williams was called for a foul on his fastbreak-layup attempt.
Brunson shot 11-for-23 and dished out five assists against his former team after missing two games with a Grade 1 right ankle sprain.
Dallas led 25-24 at the end of the opening quarter after Marshall hit one of his three 3-pointers in the period with 1.9 seconds left.
Marshall scored 19 points in the first half for the Mavericks, who trailed 52-50 at intermission. The Knicks led despite shooting 3 of 22 (13.6%) from 3-point range for the half.
Hart made two free throws to put New York ahead 78-70 with 3:08 left in the third quarter before Dallas pulled within 87-85 at the end of the period.
