Notre Dame Scores Last-Second Goal To Break Michigan Hearts In The Frozen Four
An incredible national semifinal between Notre Dame and Michigan looked to be heading to overtime, then ended with no warning whatsoever thanks to the Irish’s Jake Evans, who scored an Arike Ogunbowale-esque dagger with 5.2 seconds remaining to win the game 4-3.
Michigan started strong, going up 2-0 with a lucky deflection early in the second period. But the more talented team slowly asserted its dominance, and Notre Dame scored three unanswered to take a lead. Still, a late Wolverine goal from Mike Pastujov appeared to give Michigan hope, only for Evans to snuff it out five minutes later.
Notre Dame can’t stop winning like this. The Irish won in overtime to start the tournament against Michigan Tech, then crushed Providence in the next round with a tie-breaking game-winner with 27 seconds left in the third. They have one more game left to keep the magic going—the final against Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
