NHL roundup: Nathan MacKinnon hits 1,000 points in Avs' win

Mandatory Credit: Ron Chenoy-Imagn Images Nathan MacKinnon had two assists to reach 1,000 points for his career and the Colorado Avalanche scored twice early in the third period to beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-0 on Monday in Denver.
Scott Wedgewood made 20 saves for his second shutout of the season and the eighth of his career as the Avalanche completed a 6-0-0 homestand.
Martin Necas, Artturi Lehkonen and Joel Kiviranta scored.
Spencer Knight turned away 18 shots and 19-year-old defenseman Artyom Levshunov made his NHL debut for Chicago.
Senators 2, Red Wings 1
Linus Ullmark made 48 saves and Dylan Cozens' power-play goal with 5:04 remaining broke a tie to give host Ottawa a win over Detroit.
David Perron also scored for the Senators, who have won four of their last five games.
Dylan Larkin provided the lone goal for the Red Wings. Six straight losses have pushed Detroit outside of the Eastern Conference playoff picture. Cam Talbot stopped 21 shots in the defeat.
Sabres 3, Oilers 2
Tage Thompson scored twice as Buffalo ended its six-game losing streak with a victory over visiting Edmonton.
Alex Tuch also tallied for Buffalo, and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 32 saves in the victory that snapped an 0-5-1 skid.
Evan Bouchard and Darnell Nurse scored for the Oilers, both off assists from Leon Draisaitl, who extended his point streak to a career-best 15 games. Stuart Skinner stopped 20 shots. Edmonton had won three of its previous four games.
Maple Leafs 4, Utah Hockey Club 3 (SO)
Mitch Marner scored the shootout winner as Toronto edged Utah in Salt Lake City.
William Nylander, Calle Jarnkrok and Simon Benoit scored in regulation for Toronto, which squandered a 3-0 lead but still snapped a three-game losing streak (0-2-1). Joseph Woll made 29 saves for the Leafs, who improved to 9-3-1 over the past 13 games and 19-11-2 on the road this season.
Michael Carcone, Nick Schmaltz and Barrett Hayton responded for Utah, which has dropped back-to-back games, both of which went beyond regulation. Karel Vejmelka stopped 23 shots in the loss.
