Kneeland, a second-year defensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys, died by a self-inflicted gunshot on Thursday in Texas. He was 24.
The moment of silence was observed Sunday in Berlin before the game between the Atlanta Falcons and Indianapolis Colts, followed by a public service announcement urging those struggling with mental health -- or anyone who knows someone who is -- to contact a suicide or crisis lifeline.
A moment was observed Thursday night in Denver before the game between the Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.
ESPN and The Athletic both reported the NFL sent a memo to teams asking them to remember Kneeland pregame.
According to authorities, police tried to pull over Kneeland's car late Wednesday and he didn't stop, causing a police chase. He crashed the vehicle, fled on foot and later was found dead by an apparent suicide.
A second round draft pick in 2024 by the Cowboys, Kneeland played in Monday's loss to the Arizona Cardinals but recovered a loose ball and scored his first career touchdown.
