Nevada State Senate Passes Bill Raising Taxes To Fund NFL Stadium
Screencap [object Object] The Raiders’ plan to relocate to Las Vegas with the help of $750 million in public money got past the state senate today. The Nevada senate voted 16-5 in favor of Bill 1, which will raise room taxes in Clark County to help pay for the stadium. This does not mean, however, that excess money would simply be raised to pay for the stadium without disruption to other parts of the budget; rather, the education budget will reportedly be impacted.
While the bill was being debated, Clark County commissioner Chris Guinchigliani denounced the bill, noting that it would be the largest tax increase in state history. Other groups protested the bill, while gaming leaders advocated for it. Here is how the senate voted on the bill:
Bill 1 will now move on to the General Assembly on Thursday for a vote.
