Nebraska's Michael Rose-Ivey Addresses Racist Responses To His Anthem Protest
[object Object] On Saturday, Nebraska football players Michael Rose-Ivey, Mohamed Barry, and DaiShon Neal protested racial injustice in America by kneeling during the pregame performance of the national anthem. During a press conference yesterday, Rose-Ivey passionately defended his decision to kneel, and shared some of the racist and violent threats he and his teammates received after the game.
Rose-Ivey’s entire statement is below, and it is well worth your time. This is a guy with a clear message who knows exactly what he’s doing:
At about the 4:50 mark, Rose-Ivey gets into the responses his protest received:
I was still referred on Facebook and Twitter as a “clueless, confused nigger” by former high school classmates, friends, peers, and even Huskers fans. Some believe DaiShon, Mohamed, and myself should be kicked off the team or suspended, while some say we should be lynched or shot just like the other black people that have died recently. Another believed that since we didn’t want to stand for anthem, that we should be hung before the anthem before the next game. These are actual statements we received from fans.
