NBA Roundup: It's The Episode Where Iverson and Anthony Finally Kiss
Notes on Monday's games in the National Basketball Association ...
• The Itchy And Scratchy Show. Many were skeptical that they could co-exist, and indeed the jury is still out. But for one night at least, Carmelo Anthony and Allen Iverson worked magic at the Pepsi Center for the Denver Nuggets, making powder blue and gold relevant for perhaps the first time ever in the NBA. Anthony, coming off of a lengthy probation for smacking a Knick, had a game-high 28 points and Iverson had 23 as the Nuggets beat the officially hapless Grizzlies 115-98. They're going ga-ga over this pair in Denver, and they have reason to be optimistic, even though the opponent has won only 10 games this season. Forgive us however if we reserve judgment on the Nuggets until at least Valentine's Day, by which time we should know for sure if this is true love or simple infatuation. Anyway, Denver fans should now have enough tattoos to hold them for awhile.
• NOT What They Had In Mind. This can't be good for Knicks fans. With Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal both out with various ailments, Jason Kapono and Jason Williams took over to lead Miami's 101-83 win over New York on Monday. The Heat scored a franchise-record 27 consecutive points in the first quarter. The Knicks missed 10 consecutive shots in that span
• Coaching Is Less Sucky Tonight! Grant Hill's 22 points led the Magic to a 90-79 win over the Cavaliers. From AP: As his team huddled for a timeout in the second quarter, (coach Brian) Hill destroyed his plastic chalkboard. If the destruction was meant to send a message, the Magic got it and snapped a five-game skid. Quick, Magic fans; start donating stuff for Hill to destroy.
• You Bet Your Bibby. Mike Bibby's jumper with 10 seconds left gave the Kings an 88-87 win over the Nets on Monday, something the Kings really needed (we half expect them to show up for their next home game to an empty lot).
