MLB Game Ends In A Tie For The First Time Since 2005
Photo credit: Justin Aller/ [object Object] Tonight, officials called the Pirates-Cubs game in the sixth inning with the score tied 1-1. Heavy rain in Pittsburgh forced the game to stop for over an hour, and it was eventually called. The two teams are not scheduled to play again this year, and the outcome won’t affect playoff positioning, so there’s no substantive reason to make the game up.
The last time an MLB game ended in a tie was 2005, when a 2-2 game (that featured a Ken Griffey Jr. dinger) between the Astros and Reds was suspended due to rain. Ties were not uncommon occurrences back in the old days, when games could not be played in the dark, but since then they’ve been relatively rare. The Pirates were last involved in a tie in 1998.
