James surpassed Abdul-Jabbar's league mark for total minutes played at 66,298 in the first quarter of the Lakers' game with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The record, which Abdul-Jabbar set at 66,297, includes regular-season and playoff games.
In his 20th season, James hit the milestone on Monday as the 76ers surged to a 28-15 lead with a 20-2 run in the opening quarter Monday.

James is fourth on the NBA's all-time assists list behind Chris Paul, Jason Kidd and record-holder John Stockton (15,806).
