Mike Piazza Will Neither Confirm Nor Deny That He's Talked To Could-Be Mets Buyers
Down at Spring Training in his role as Team Italy's hitting coach, former MLB catcher Mike Piazza fielded questions about his future desires. Namely, he was asked whether he plans to follow Nolan Ryan's lead in the player-to-owner movement.
"Would I be interested in possibly getting involved in a group to buy a team? Probably. I've been thinking about it. I think that would be something that would probably suit my desire, at least, to get into the game. ... Let's just say I've talked to some people who have interest in getting into the game. It doesn't cost anything to talk, thank god. At least not yet."
Hopefully, there's no bad blood lingering after Bud Selig's formal apology to, and the multimillion-dollar settlement with, Piazza's dad Vince for defamatory organized-crime implications during an ownership play in the 1990s.
