Michael Carter-Williams Just Misses Quadruple Double In NBA Debut
Holy shit, Michael Carter-Williams! Where the hell did that come from?
The 76ers' rookie point guard, a Syracuse product who was the 11th overall pick in the 2013 draft, went absolutely bananas in his first game as an NBA player. His 22 points, 12 assists, nine steals and seven rebounds paced the lowly 76ers to a shocking victory over the Miami Heat. That's a stat line that's only been produced twice in NBA history, by the way.
Making the night even better was the fact that Carter-Williams bookended those gaudy numbers with breakaway dunk to start the game and a game-clinching strip of LeBron James to end it. Not a bad way to start a career, rook.
Obviously, Carter-Williams isn't going to be this good every night, but the good news is that he's going to have ample opportunities to try and repeat these results. He's been installed as the Sixers' starting point guard and now holds the reins to a team that is without identity or expectations. This means that we might be seeing a lot more of Michael Carter-Williams playing fast and loose, wreaking havoc on his opponents with his 6-foot-6 frame and huge wingspan, and just generally taking over games. Because if he isn't going to do it, who the hell is?
But for now, let's enjoy watching the rookie soak up the moment:
