Mets Closer Jenrry Mejía Suspended 80 Games For Steroid Use
Jenrry Mejía, who became the Mets closer partway through last season after beginning the year as a starter, has been suspended 80 games for testing positive for stanozolol:
Already this year Ervin Santana and David Rollins have been suspended 80 games for using stanozolol, the standard penalty under baseball’s Joint Drug Agreement for a first-time positive test for a performance-enhancing substance. Mejía has yet to pitch this season, as he was placed on the disabled list with elbow inflammation. He’ll now have quite a long time for that elbow to heal up.
Update: I didn’t see this before posting, but Mejía has released a statement saying he won’t contest the suspension, but has “no idea” how the stanozolol ended up in his body.
