Mayweather Dominates Canelo In The Eyes Of Everyone Except One Judge
Floyd Mayweather is still unbeatable.
In a majority decision—with one judge somehow ruling a draw, but we'll get to that later—Mayweather defeated Canelo Alvarez Saturday night to improve to 45-0 and stay undefeated.
Even though the fight went the distance, Mayweather was in clear control from the beginning. Alvarez wasn't able to put much of anything together, and when he did land hits on Mayweather—specifically in round 10, when he had Mayweather on the ropes for all of eight seconds—it was too late. Mayweather didn't look that sweaty by the end of the bout, while Alvarez's exhaustion was evident in his matted hair and breathing as he did his post-match interview.
About that majority decision, which was the most notable controversy of the fight: C.J. Ross, a judge whose name has been affiliated with questionable decisions before—like the atrocious scoring of 2012's Pacquiao-Bradley—somehow scored this fight a draw. Anyone watching at home could have picked a winner. Ross's score, read first, elicited a puzzled look from Mayweather (and entourage member Justin Bieber).
Ignoring that blemish, it was clear that Mayweather manhandled Alvarez. This 36-year-old version of Floyd Mayweather might not be knocking out opponents like he once did, but he still has that ridiculous speed and accuracy which easily gave him the victory Saturday night.
