Mariners sock season-best 5 home runs, outslug Dodgers

Dominic Canzone hit two home runs, including a go-ahead two-run shot in the eighth inning, as the visiting Seattle Mariners finished off a 7-6 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers in the opener of a three-game series on Tuesday.

Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez and Rob Refsnyder also hit home runs to give the Mariners a season-high five on the night and end a 12-game losing streak to the Dodgers going back to 2021.

Seattle starter Luis Castillo allowed five runs on 11 hits over five innings. Eduard Bazardo (4-3) threw a 1-2-3 eighth inning, and Andres Munoz earned his 19th save despite yielding a run in the ninth.

Shohei Ohtani and Max Muncy homered for the Dodgers, who were playing their first home game since the All-Star break. Los Angeles All-Star left-hander Justin Wrobleski allowed a season-high four home runs while giving up five runs over six innings. Brock Stewart (0-1) surrendered one run in 1 1/3 innings.

Ohtani got the power show off to a fast start with a leadoff home run in the first inning. It was his 10th game-opening blast of the season.

The Mariners got into the act in the second when Raleigh hit a home run to left, his 11th of the season and second since July 5. It was his third while batting right-handed after he hit 22 from the right side last season.

The Dodgers regained the lead 2-1 in the third inning when Dalton Rushing scored on a double-play grounder by Freddie Freeman.

Rodriguez hit a solo home run and Refsnyder added a two-run shot as Seattle took a 4-2 lead in the fourth. It was the second time this season, and the first time since April 11, that Raleigh and Rodriguez went deep in the same game.

An RBI double from Tommy Edman and an RBI single from Ohtani in the fourth got the Dodgers even at 4-all.

After Muncy put Los Angeles up 5-4 with a leadoff blast in the fifth, Canzone matched it in the sixth to tie the game. Canzone's second of the night, for a 7-5 lead, came against left-hander Alex Vesia.

Ohtani pulled the Dodgers within 7-6 by hitting an RBI double in the ninth. He reached third base with no outs but was stranded as Munoz escaped the jam.
