Luis Montes Scores Spectacular Goal, Immediately Suffers Horrific Injury

Mexico will be missing one of its midfielders in Brazil after Luis Montes suffered what looks like a compound leg fracture during today's friendly against Ecuador—just moments after scoring a spectacular golazo.

Montes was expected to be a key offensive threat for El Tri at the World Cup, and his abilities are on no better display than his opening strike today in Arlington. But this injury really truly is horrific, and we can't see him returning to the pitch anytime soon.

Update (4:15 p.m.): ESPN is reporting Montes broke both his tibia and fibula. We're told TV Azteca says Ecuador's Segundo Castillo, the other participant in the collision, is also likely out of the World Cup with a torn ACL.
