Liz Cambage Goes Off For WNBA-Record 53 Points 

Dallas Wings center Liz Cambage made history this afternoon when she hung 53 points on the New York Liberty. Not only was that tally over half of her team’s 104 points, it’s the most in a single game in WNBA history. Cambage shot 17–of–22 from the field, 4–of–5 from three, and made 15 of her 16 free throws. She also added 10 rebounds and five blocks for good measure in what wound up being a blowout win. Here is a highlight reel of Cambage’s asskicking.

Cambage passed Riquna Williams, who previously held the record with 51, with a late three-pointer. Incredibly, Cambage had made just one of 18 attempts from three-point range for her career before going nuts today.

Cambage has had a long and strange journey back to WNBA stardom after leaving the league following two stunted seasons with Tulsa. She spent time in China and Australia before signing with the Wings this year and is in the midst of an unexpected career season. Only Breanna Stewart is scoring more points per game, and the Wings are up to fourth in the league standings. Cambage said after the game that setting a new WNBA record felt especially meaningful after her long road back.
