The Liberty announced Tuesday that they are not renewing her contract for the 2026 season.
The news comes four days after defending champs were bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Phoenix Mercury.
Brondello, 57, is the winningest head coach in franchise history, posting a 107-53 record during her four years at the helm. The Liberty recorded identical 32-8 records in 2023 and 2024, falling to the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA Finals in the first year before beating the Minnesota Lynx last season.
"We would like to thank Sandy Brondello for her everlasting impact on the New York Liberty," New York general manager Jonathan Kolb said in a statement. "Sandy finishes her tenure in New York as the winningest coach in franchise history, and she took us to never-before-seen heights as the first head coach to lead the Liberty to a championship. We wish Sandy the very best in her next chapter."
The Liberty announced that they will begin the search for their next head coach immediately.
