Last Night's Winner: British Skeletoners
In sports, everyone is a winner- some people just win better than others. Like Amy Williams, whose gold in skeleton summarily refuted two British stereotypes - that they suck at the Winter Olympics, and that they don't have purty teeth.
With her victory, Williams became Great Britain's first Winter Olympic Champion in thirty years, and the first ever to be cheered on by an in-attendance Richard Branson. Alas, her triumph was not without controversy. After the second of her four runs, a number of countries filed a protest relating to alleged "spoilers" attached to her helmet (the twist in A Perfect Getaway, perhaps?). But the protest was dismissed and, in the spirit of true imperialistic temerity, she soldiered on, nailing her last two runs to bump the mighty Germans down to silver and bronze. If the Queen ever slips and goes tumbling down an icy mountain slope, we now know just who to dispatch to save her.
Runner up: Andy Murray. The heat's off, pal...at least until Wimbledon. Hollingsworth falls short of podium [CTV Olympics]
