LaMarcus Aldridge Will Sign With The Spurs
LaMarcus Aldridge, this summer’s most coveted free agent, will sign a four-year, $80 million deal with the San Antonio Spurs, reports Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Aldridge was wined and dined seemingly every day during the free agency period, taking meetings with the Spurs, Lakers, Heat, and Suns, not to mention his former team the Blazers. Reportedly, the decision came down between Phoenix and San Antonio, and it’s not hard to see why Aldridge chose the Spurs.
He will become the heir apparent to Tim Duncan, whenever Duncan chooses to retire. And this upcoming season? Man, the Spurs are going to be scary as hell. With Danny Green back, the Spurs shouldn’t be sacrificing much of their trademark continuity. Essentially, they’re swapping Tiago Splitter with Aldridge, one of the best post and mid-range bigs in the game, with the ability to stretch his jump-shooting range even further.
Pour a small one out for Phoenix. They traded away some assets because they felt poised to sign Aldridge. It would have been cool to see a team like the Suns snag a big-time guy like Aldridge for once. Surely, the rest of the NBA felt the same way, because San Antonio just made the biggest splash signing of the offseason.
