Kings One Win Away From Stanley Cup; Rangers Sliding On Their Faces
The first thing that grabs the eye is, obviously, just how close this came to crossing the line and giving the Kings a 4-0 lead. Not really a big deal, but with 10 minutes left in the game a three-goal lead is not insurmountable. A fourth goal, though, would have emptied the Garden and packed Penn Station. Instead, Dan Girardi stopped the puck and fans stuck around for the final minutes to watch the Kings make it official: a 3-0 win and a 3-0 series lead.
The second thing that grabs the eye is just how ridiculous Girardi looks sliding through the crease on his face.
The Kings won 3-0 on a night where the Rangers couldn't get anything past Quick. They had their chances—a Quick stick swat on Mats Zuccarello, stonewalling Kreider in the third period, and watching Nash fumble around with a wide open net in the second all come immediately to mind—but he shut them out. Even when New York had a man advantage after pulling Lundqvist with 4:20 left in the game, they couldn't even get anything through to Quick, let alone past him.
The Kings, now one win away from another Cup, were flying all over the ice in front of their perfect goaltender and the Rangers were Dan Girardi sliding on his face. But at least he made the stop; the hope for New York is that they get a similar stop and at least delay the inevitable with a win in Game 4.
