John Abraham Quietly Got Himself A DUI Charge Last Month
Linebacker John Abraham, coming off a Pro Bowl season in Arizona, hasn't yet reported to Cardinals training camp. The team says it's a personal matter. It may or may not have to do with housekeeping for a DUI arrest Abraham racked up in June, and which he managed to keep quiet until now.
The in Brookhaven, Ga., just outside Atlanta, on charges of DUI and parking, stopping or standing in a prohibited place. His booking details are available in DeKalb County's online database.
Abraham faces the possibility of a fine or suspension under the NFL's personal conduct policy, though only twice have DUI convictions resulted in suspensions, and both times there were additional factors. Donté Stallworth was suspended the entire 2009 season for pleading guilty to DUI manslaughter, and in 2010 Vincent Jackson was suspended for three games for his second DUI in three years. (Abraham pleaded guilty to a charge of DWI in 2003 when he was with the Jets.)
It's not clear why Abraham has yet to show up at Cardinals training camp, which opened on Friday. ("I'm not concerned at all," GM Steve Keim said yesterday. "He'll be back at some point.") The 36-year-old joined Arizona in training camp last season and went to put up 11.5 sacks and make his fifth pro bowl.
