Jameson Taillon Activated After Surgery For Testicular Cancer, Will Make First Start Back Tonight
Photo Credit: Joe Sargent/ [object Object] Exactly five weeks after undergoing surgery for testicular cancer, Jameson Taillon has been reinstated from the disabled list and will return to the mound tonight.
After struggling with symptoms such as groin pain and fatigue throughout spring training and the start of the season, Taillon discovered a lump in one of his testicles during a road trip to Cincinnati at the beginning of May. He pitched the next night as scheduled and then told the team trainer about the lump, which led to a series of ultrasounds and examinations and a diagnosis shortly thereafter. Taillon was booked for surgery a few days later.
His operation was successful, and doctors say that he will not need chemotherapy so long as his blood tests continue to bring back encouraging results. In the month since, he’s been recuperating and prepping for his return to baseball. From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
Taillon’s schedule over the past month was, as he described it, “a little unorthodox.” He was shuttled between ballparks and the hospital for CT scans, MRIs, ultrasounds and bi-weekly blood tests. He made three rehabilitation starts. In the end, he concluded, “It’s all been worth it.”
Taillon will make his return tonight at home against the Rockies.
