JaMarcus Russell, Who Now Weighs More Than 300 Pounds, Is Thinking Comeback
JaMarcus Russell, the first overall pick of the 2007 draft, pretty much ate and purple drank his way through $31.5 million in guaranteed money. The Raiders cut him loose in May 2010, and he had a couple of failed tryouts with the Redskins and Dolphins later that summer. Since then, the only signal-calling he's done has been at his local Ponderosa's prime-rib station.
But what's this? Russell telling Shutdown Corner he intends to work out at a football academy in Florida? He says he now weighs 308 pounds—down from 320—and that he wants another chance at the NFL, to which end he has enlisted Michael Clayton, another former NFL player from LSU, as his mentor. A handful of other ex-athletes are also expected to assist in whipping Russell back into something resembling playing shape. We welcome everything about this news. It's the easiest excuse we can think of to again publish the video you see above.
