Jagr Old
Via James Duthie, a photo from the vaults. 1998. Jaromir Jagr was already a nine-year NHL veteran. The young man on the left, 10 years old, is the nephew of Dan Kesa, then Jagr's Pittsburgh teammate. His name is Milan Lucic.
Jagr and Lucic are teammates now, after Boston sent a pair of prospects and a conditional draft pick to Dallas in exchange for a few months of the wily veteran's services. Potentially, it's the last piece of a Stanley Cup puzzle—but more immediately, it's a return shot toward the Penguins, who last week controversially beat out the Bruins to acquire Jarome Iginla.
Don't make the mistake of thinking this move is solely reactionary: Jagr is a much better player than Iginla right now. With 14 goals and 12 assists in 34 games, he's having his best season since heading to the KHL to "finish his career."
