Hurricanes score OT winner after Flyers' potential game-ender nullified

Mandatory Credit: James Guillory-Imagn Images Seth Jarvis scored with 16.7 seconds left in overtime to give the Carolina Hurricanes a 4-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers in a wild change of fortunes in the final minute Saturday night in Raleigh, N.C.
Logan Stankoven, Taylor Hall and Jordan Staal scored in regulation for Carolina. Frederik Andersen made 20 saves.
Bobby Brink had a goal and an assist and Owen Tippett and Travis Sanheim had the other Philadelphia goals, with Sanheim tying the game with four minutes to play in regulation. Flyers goalie Samuel Ersson stopped 35 shots.
Brink appeared to score the winning goal with 53.1 seconds to play in the extra session, but the goal was nullified after video review because of goaltender interference.
The Hurricanes, playing in their second game before a six-game road trip, had the only shot on goal in overtime after racking up at least 12 shots in every period.
Staal's goal came with 1:30 to play in Carolina's three-goal second period. It marked his 299th career goal.
Tippett was in the right spot on the power play when teammate Travis Konecny's blast from the left side went high and off the boards. The puck ricocheted right to Tippett, who was in the slot and quickly drilled a shot past Andersen.
So Carolina's 16-6 edge in first-period shots didn't pay off.
Stankoven led the charge into the Flyers' zone and was rewarded when he was in position seconds later for a rebound, pulling the Hurricanes even at 3:46 of the second period.
Brink put the Flyers back on top 6:18 into the second. Less than three minutes later, Hall scored in transition for his second goal of the season.
This game marked the first time Philadelphia's Rick Tocchet and Carolina's Rod Brind'Amour were behind the benches as coaches on opposing teams. They were Philadelphia teammates in the early 1990s.
The Flyers lost on the road to last season's other Eastern Conference finalist, the Florida Panthers, to open the season Thursday night.
