Houston Coach Tom Herman Yells On Radio Show Over Kyle Allen Report

John Lopez of Houston station Sports Radio 610 published a report on Dec. 13, 2015, that claimed Houston Cougars football coach Tom Herman had met with former Texas A&M quarterback Kyle Allen in Houston. Nothing came of it until Jan. 5, when the that Allen was transferring to Herman’s program. Now, here’s where all the loud arguing about college football comes in.

Nick Wright, who has a show at 610 with Lopez called “In The Loop,” defended his colleague for having the report first, by a long shot. In a statement, Herman said Lopez’s report was “completely inaccurate.”

Herman joined Lopez and Wright on “In The Loop” today to discuss the veracity of Lopez’s report. The first two paragraphs (of three):

Kyle Allen, who started parts of two seasons for Texas A&M, was in Houston Sunday to explore transfer opportunities with Cougars’ head coach Tom Herman, SportsRadio 610 has been told by a source.

Allen, a former five-star recruit out of Scottsdale, Ariz., met with Herman and at least one other member of the Houston Cougars staff at an undisclosed location in town. After sitting out the 2016 season, which will be Greg Ward Jr.’s final season, Allen will have two seasons of eligibility.

Herman took issue with the claim that he and Allen met face-to-face in Houston, because at the time, it could have been an NCAA violation. He denied meeting with the quarterback, and stood by his claim that the report was completely inaccurate. Lopez, who was supported by Wright, argued that he was still first on the Allen transfer. Neither side would budge, which made for entertaining radio. Analogies involving fires and cars were made. Here’s the full audio, but I just summarized 90 percent of it.

At the end of the interview, Wright asked if Herman would like to get lunch. “Absolutely not,” the coach said.
