Home plate umpire Manny Gonzalez left Monday's game between the San Diego Padres and host Cincinnati Reds after four innings due to heat exhaustion and dehydration that caused elevated blood pressure and blurred vision.

The game began with the temperature at 90 degrees and the humidity at 61%. After the Padres scored four times during a lengthy top of the fourth and the Reds went down in order in the bottom half, Gonzalez, 47, called for the medical staff to help him.

Reds trainer Tomas Vera escorted the 13-year veteran off the field and to the medical area beneath Great American Ball Park.

The game was delayed for 14 minutes to aid Gonzalez and to give first base umpire D.J. Reyburn time to put on the gear to call balls and strikes.
