Hold On, Has Matt Harvey Never Seen The Dark Knight?
Mike Coppola/ [object Object] Matt Harvey, the New York Mets ace, has been going by the nickname “The Dark Knight” since early 2013—the name stuck after Sports Illustrated put Harvey on the cover of its May 20, 2013 edition along with the copy, “The Dark Knight of Gotham.” In retrospect, this may have a bit of a premature move, not because he isn’t out here being the hero Gotham needs, but because I don’t think Matt Harvey’s ever seen The Dark Knight.
Over the past three years, with the media’s coaxing, he’s wrapped his big bat wings around the nickname, going out of his way to invoke it in both personal and professional settings. During rehab from Tommy John surgery, he posted a picture from The Dark Knight Rise’s teaser series to indicate he, the Dark Knight, was rising; he signed Batman masks for money; he had the moniker carved into his bat; ESPN produced a feature on him entitled Matt Harvey: The Dark Knight; hell, he even posted pictures that indicated he’s been a lifelong fan of the Caped Crusader.
One would assume that Harvey at least knows the basics of the Batman universe, and that makes it hard to explain this shit:
Harvey combined the two characters from The Dark Knight, the Joker and Harvey Dent/Two-Face, but the way he did it—going half-Joker, half-Dent—indicates that he either completely forgot what happens in the movie, has no clue that the two villains were actually different people, or, as I posit, never saw it to begin with.
