High School Snaps 84-Game Losing Streak In Double OT Playing 3 v. 5
The Climax-Fisher High School (Minnesota) girls basketball team packed a whole lot into their 62-58 victory over Bagley High School on Tuesday. Most importantly, the win ended Climax-Fisher's 84-game losing streak. The streak was so long that, according to The Forum, it was head coach Jonathon Vonesh's first win with the team, having previously been 0-48. Hell, it was the first win for anybody on the team! But the way it came about is just as improbable.
Climax-Fisher only dressed eight players for the game, and four of them fouled out before regulation was over, meaning they started playing the first overtime 4-5. Then, two minutes into the second overtime another player fouled out. On offense Climax-Fisher didn't make a field goal in either overtime, instead running an offense designed to draw fouls, where they went 12-17 from the free throw line. On defense they played a zone, with one player under the basket, one at the free throw line, and the final one on the perimeter. You can see video of their zone on The Forum's story.
