Heat handle Hawks in double overtime

Tyler Herro scored 33 points and Jimmy Butler registered 25 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and three steals as the Miami Heat notched a 117-111 double-overtime victory over the host Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night.

Nikola Jovic added 23 points and eight rebounds and Haywood Highsmith scored 13 points for Miami (44-35). Bam Adebayo had 10 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals for the Heat, who remain in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, a half-game behind the Philadelphia 76ers and a full game in back of the Indiana Pacers.

Atlanta's Dejounte Murray recorded 29 points, 13 rebounds, 13 assists and four steals for his 19th career triple-double. De'Andre Hunter added 23 points and 11 rebounds for the Hawks, who are in 10th place in the East after losing their third straight game.

Atlanta's Jalen Johnson had 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and collected eight rebounds in 24 minutes before departing with 5:25 left in the third quarter due to a sprained right ankle. It was his third injury to that ankle in less than five weeks.

Neither team scored in the second overtime until Herro made two free throws with 2:26 remaining. Herro hit a floater 36 seconds later and Highsmith added a basket to give Miami a 113-107 lead with 1:35 left.

Atlanta tied the game with 17.1 seconds left in regulation when Murray drove for a basket and his shot was swatted away by Adebayo. However, the Heat center was called for goaltending and the score was tied at 101.

In the first overtime, Highsmith knocked down a 3-pointer to tie it at 107 with 46.1 seconds left.

Miami shot 47.7 percent, including 18 of 45 from 3-point range.

The Hawks made 39.8 percent of their attempts and were 10 of 46 from behind the arc. Bruno Fernando scored 12 points and Bogdan Bogdanovic and Garrison Mathews added 11 apiece.

Atlanta trailed by 12 at halftime before outscoring Miami 33-21 in the third quarter to knot the score at 80.

Butler later scored six points in a 54-second span of the fourth quarter to give Miami a 97-92 lead with 4:54 remaining.

Atlanta received a 3-pointer by Murray and a dunk by Clint Capela to catch the Heat at 97 with 3:27 left in the fourth.

Herro scored 16 first-half points as Miami led 59-47 at the break.
