Harry Kane Saves England With Dramatic 91st-Minute Winner
credits: Matthias Hangst | source: [object Object] The first 90 minutes of England’s World Cup opener played out how many fans feared they would. Harry Kane easily found the back of the net in the first 11 minutes after a powerful John Stones header was batted right onto his feet, but England were brought back to Earth quickly. In the 34th minute, Kyle Walker left his elbow too high and allowed a Tunisian attacker to create a penalty. It was rather soft, but Walker put himself in the wrong position at the wrong time, and Ferjani Sassi buried his attempt.
The English spent the next hour fruitlessly kicking it around the Tunisia goal and failing to score a winner. Despite looking like the better team and enjoying 60 percent of the possession, England struggled to slice up the resolute Tunisia defense and create truly great chances. This has seemingly been the case for more or less every single elite team here in Russia.
But then in the first minute of stoppage time, Harry Kane was once again in the perfect place to smash home a close-range ball in the box, this time doing so with a neat redirection with his head. Somehow, England didn’t blow it, and they’re level on points with Belgium.
Despite all this, England have not changed positions in our fraud tiers.
