Grizzlies Continue Remarkable Commitment To Tanking With 61-Point Loss
credits: Chuck Burton | source: [object Object] The Grizzlies’ magnificent losing streak may have come to a stop last week after 19 games, but never fear, the team is still in tip-top losing shape. Tonight against the Hornets, they pulled off the worst loss in franchise history: 140-79, the NBA’s first 60-point loss in two decades.
They never led, falling behind 2-0 and letting things spool out from there; by halftime, they were down by 33. As per usual, Tyreke Evans was the lone bright spot here, leading the team in scoring with 16 points, despite the fact that he played just 19 minutes. Everything else was as usual, too—a starting lineup that featured both JaMychal Green and Jarell Martin alongside a regular center in Deyonta Davis, a whole bunch of turnovers, some terrible three-point shooting. The usual, just a little worse. From start to finish, the Grizzlies’ Twitter account found just two highlights to share. (Both in the first half, neither that good.)
All this gave Kemba Walker the opportunity to explode for the Hornets, with 46 points—including a franchise-record 10 three-pointers—in just 28 minutes on the floor.
The Grizzlies, meanwhile, are still only tied with the Suns for worst in the Western Conference.
