Giants Fans Lustily Boo Josh Hader In First Road Appearance Since Racist Tweets Surfaced
credits: Morry Gash | source: AP Last night in San Francisco, Brewers reliever Josh Hader made his first road appearance since a trove of gross tweets he wrote as a teenager were surfaced during the All-Star Game. His home fans in Milwaukee feted him with a standing ovation when he took the mound for the first time after apologizing for getting racist, but San Francisco fans were not as kind. This is to be expected, especially from a fan base as diverse as the Giants’.
Hader picked up the win after pitching 1.1 flawless innings, and said after the game that he “can’t control what people are going to say to me.” It seems the Brewers expect this to happen throughout the season, as Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said. “This is hanging over Josh. He feels this every day. So that’s not going to go away after today. We’re on the road, it’s something different. But he’s hurting. So I don’t think that’s going to go away today.”
