Giancarlo Stanton Reportedly Has Broken Bone In Hand; Everything Sucks
Giancarlo Stanton has been crushing baseballs all season long, smacking out an MLB-leading 27 homers and driving in an MLB-leading 67 runs. So you can understand everyone’s trepidation when he announced some sort of hand injury suffered during yesterday’s game against the Dodgers. And it looks like a bad one.
Here’s Ken Rosenthal on what we know so far:
Stanton likely broke the bone during his 6th inning at bat, when, as he said after the game, “My bat dug into my hand a little bit.” He tried playing through it and stayed in the game, but he called his final at bat in the 9th inning “the icing on the cake” for his injury. His hand eventually started swelling up and he was scheduled to have an X-ray this morning.
Update [10:22 a.m.]: ESPN’s Tim Kirkjian has reported that Stanton is expected to be out for 4-6 weeks.
Injuries are the worst.
