Giancarlo Stanton Is Out To Destroy Every Baseball In New York
Last night against the Mets, Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton used his last two at-bats of the game to deliver us the gift of two perfectly mashed, picturesque taters. The Marlins played the Mets again this afternoon, and Stanton slapped two more gasp-inducing dingers in his first two at-bats of the game.
The first homer, almost a carbon copy of last night’s sky-puncher, travelled 470 feet and is the farthest ever hit at the Mets’ stadium, according to ESPN Stats and Info (mobile users turn phone sideways or click here for video):
Stanton’s second dinger of the day came in the top of the sixth inning, and it elicited a noise from the crowd that made it seem like everyone in attendance had simultaneously received a text message that read, “We need to talk about your browser history.”
Stanton came up again in the ninth inning with a shot at becoming the first player in MLB history to hit five home runs in five consecutive at-bats, but Mets closer Jeurys Familia managed to strike him out. A piece of baseball history would have been nice, but considering what a struggle this season has been for him, I’m sure Stanton is quite pleased with 4-for-5 with four homers.
