Geoff Ogilvy Sounds Like A Real Asshole
Geoff Ogilvy hasn't won on the PGA tour in four years, and after hearing how the Australian golfer treated a local radio station during the Players Championship this week at TPC Sawgrass we can't say we're looking forward to him hoisting a trophy anytime soon.
Jacksonville sports talk station 1010XL is an official TPC sponsor, and when they brought Ogilvy on Thursday for an interview he behaved like a complete jackass. As host Jessica Blaylock was miking him up, the golfer asked her what the interview was for. After being told it was for local sports radio, Ogilvy scoffed and turned to his manager.
"Don't ever put me on local sports radio ever again. This is ridiculous."
Observers tell us Ogilvy continued to be "snotty and condescending" throughout the very brief interview, shaking his head as if the entire affair were beneath him. American sports talk is, admittedly, by and large inane. But a pro golfer of all people should understand by now the obligations that go along with official tournament partners—that's where your money comes from, dummy—and when that partner is a media outlet, it's probably best for your bottom line to not be an asshole.
Oh, and lest you think Ogilvy was simply frustrated after a bad round: the interview took place just after he tied a course record with a 30 on the back nine.
